With the large housing boom that has swept the nation in the last few years, many people have assumed that housing has become unattainable and unaffordable, but they couldn't be more wrong. Buying a home in Canada is an excellent idea if you are looking to live in one of the most beautiful countries in the world and you want an affordable home. There are plenty of great cities all over the country with great homes for sale, so let's take a look at the best places in Canada to buy a small home under 300k.

Note: the median home value represents the average home price. Smaller homes will likely be significantly less expensive than the median home value, and many of these great cities have plenty of homes available that are under $300,000.

1) Saskatoon, Saskatchewan - Median home value= $370,000

This fantastic city has seen a significant increase in population within the metro area of the city, along with a rise in job opportunities in the last few years. There are currently over 400 listings for homes under 300k in Saskatoon, and many of them are perfect starter homes for growing families. The city is a great place to consider if you are looking for a smaller metro city, and it's one of the best places to go if you want to work in agriculture, digital media or distribution.

2) Brandon, Manitoba - Median home value= $280,000

Brandon, Manitoba, is a great place to consider for those who are looking to save a large amount of money on their new home or those who want to invest in some excellent properties. Brandon has seen unprecedented real estate prices in the last few years, which has made many people start flocking to the area to purchase some of the incredible homes. The current average is far below the national average for homes, and there are currently over 100 listings for fantastic-looking homes under $300,000.

3) Thunder Bay, Ontario - Median home value= $ 340,000

Ontario has seen an incredible increase in home prices within the last few years which has led to many areas becoming overpriced and others ending up with low inventory. Luckily, Thunder Bay has remained a fantastic choice for those who want affordable housing, and the area's median home price is an excellent indication of that. Thunder Bay is in a fantastic location, and it's started to become a popular city for those who are looking to attend some of the local post-secondary schools.

4) Cache Creek, British Columbia - Median home value= $390, 000
