Buying a home is one of the most important decisions you'll ever need to make, but building your own home might be better, depending on where you are. If you have been thinking about building your own home, have a look at this list to see some of the top US cities where building your home is better than buying. Some states have much better rates for property over preexisting homes, and it's a good idea to do your research before you start looking. 

Coxsackie, New York | Population: 8,000

This small town is a great place to look at if you want to buy some property. Coxsackie is full of rich history, and it's got plenty of nearby farmland at amazing prices. The land is selling in the $5k to $199k price range, so you can get as large or as small of a piece as you want, and some of the larger lots are right on the water of the Hudson River.

Jasper County, Mississippi | Population: 17,000

Jasper county is a beautiful area that is mostly rural, so you can find the perfect place to build your own farm. This is one of the best counties to find cheap land that is in a beautiful area. Plots of land in Jasper county are selling from about 5k to 200k, and there are quite a few available.

Lake Los Angeles, California | Population: 12,000

If you want to live near the big city without paying the big city prices, then have a look at some of the great land over at Lake Los Angeles. This area is full of great places to build your new home, and it's only an hour and a half away from all of the action in Los Angeles. This is an excellent place for a wide selection of plots that are much larger than most, and you won't have any neighbors for miles.

Sioux City, Iowa Population 85,000

If you are looking for a more residential area to place your new home in, check out the land in Sioux City. These are some of the least expensive residential areas in the country, and you can find a great place for your new home in the 5k range. They also have quite a few large lots that are under 30k, which is perfect for those who want to build their home with a sizable yard.

Beavercreek, Ohio | Population 46,000

Beavercreek is one of the most beautiful cities in the state, and it's an ideal place to look at for newly built homes. There are plenty of amazing new developments in and around the city, so you can find the perfect community for your new home. Land in Beavercreek sells between $54k and $175k, and they are located in fantastic areas that are filling up fast. 

Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota | Population: 2,000

Hoyt Lakes is another fantastic choice for those who are looking for developed land. There are quite a few great pieces of land that are under 10k and in an amazing new development called Colby Beach that is close to Birch Cove beach. Residents love living in Hoyt Lakes, and it's close to the Hoyt Lakes golf course, which is one of the best in the area. 

Parsons, Kansas | Population: 9,000

This city is a delightfully small town that is full of excellent properties that are in a fantastic price range almost anyone can afford. If you want your own little slice of residential heaven, then have a look at the land in Parsons, where many of the properties are going for under 5k. The town has plenty of gorgeous parks and kid-friendly activities, so it's a great place to consider if you are thinking about building a home for your growing family.

Lake Carroll, Illinois | Population: 500

If you want to get on the ground floor of some of the most amazing properties in Illinois, then have a look at Lake Carroll for some great property prices. They have a new development going in that is sure to be a popular place for new home buyers, and it's being built around a gorgeous man-made private lake. The Lake Carroll area is just two hours away from nearby Chicago, so you can be close to all of the action without paying the big city prices. 

Whether you want a home in a well-developed community or you are searching for something in an established residential area, there are properties all over the country that are great prices. Make sure you do your research on what is nearby and what the land is like before you make your purchase so you can make sure that you can start your new build right away. Have a look at the lot prices in some of these cities to save a ton on your land so you can put more money towards building your dream home.
